Course Overview
“In training stations that last 6 hours , This course explores health promotion as a fundamental pillar of modern medical education, emphasizing its role in improving physical, social, and mental well-being at a community level. Delivered through a 6-hour interactive training, the course introduces problem-based learning (PBL) as an essential method for teaching disease prevention and health promotion.
Participants will examine how medical institutions incorporate health promotion concepts and explore strategies to strengthen education, policies, and leadership in this field. The course also covers the role of Health Promotion Officers in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion initiatives through diverse approaches, including:
- Health education and mass media
- Community development and engagement
- Advocacy, lobbying, and social marketing
- Health policy and environmental strategies
- Workforce development and capacity building
By the end of the course, participants will gain practical knowledge and skills to promote healthier lifestyles, support public health initiatives, and drive systemic change in medical education and health promotion practices.
Training needs
- Lack of empowerment strategies using appropriate educational programmes and adequate qualitative interpretive research strategies for their evaluation .
- Lack of Health promotion activities such as awareness programmes, exhibitions, campaigns, celebration of important health-related days, and health inputs. Health promotion is evolving into a discrete concept with a definition commonly understood by all who use the term.
- This is to be distinguished from the kind of umbrella approach used by all manner of groups and disciplines to define their intentions or activities in this general area. Further, such a process of clarification is critical to progress and is dependent on having a theoretical basis through which research can be undertaken. In turn, the education of those engaged in health promotion can be expected to shape their skill range and perspective. We find, therefore, a kind of interdependent and reciprocal situation is developing.
